Family Worship
This page serves as a resource to assist individuals and families with engaging in scripture reading and prayer throughout the week. Just as we need to be physically nourished by food each day, we need to be spiritually nourished by the word of God all throughout our weeks and not merely on Sunday.
This Bible reading plan is printed each week on the bulletins at Westminster OPC. It is designed to guide users in reading the entire Bible in the span of two years when done 6 days per week at the typical pace of 1-2 chapters per day.
Prayer requests are printed in the weekly bulletin and can be used throughout the week. In general, pray (as families and individuals) for the following categories throughout the week:
Praise and thanks to God for His power, glory, and care for us
The Church
Its peace, purity, advancement, missions, laborers, and persecutionThe World
The civil governmentThe People of God
Our callings and vocations, families, marriages, health concerns, losses
The teachings of the Larger and Shorter Catechisms on the Lord’s Prayer are a helpful guide for prayer as well.
Additional resources you may find helpful:
Family Worship Bible Guide, published by Reformation Heritage Books. This book contains simple comments and questions on each chapter of the Bible for family reading and study. This material is also integrated into the Reformation Heritage KJV Study Bible.
A good audio Bible. Listening to the Bible read out loud can supplement reading and also provide opportunities for further use during commutes, exercise, etc. Many audio Bibles are dramatized, which can be distracting. I (Pastor Andrew) recommend using one of the voice-only Bibles in NKJV. Many streaming music services also include access to these.
Family worship can often incorporate singing together. I suggest acquiring a copy of the hymnal and singing the songs at home. There are complete lyrics and audio files to every song in the 1961 Trinity Hymnal that WOPC uses available here to assist in learning/singing songs.
